Vice President of Clinical Services
Kathy Paul has served the communities of Schenectady and Saratoga Counties since moving here from her native Utica NY in 1990. As a former Ellis Medicine employee, Kathy transitioned in to the home care arena in 1993 making community health care her life’s work. Kathy began her career at the VNS as an RN Case Manager shortly thereafter transitioning in to a management role. She has functioned in many leadership roles, spearheading numerous committees and initiatives during her 20+ year career at the VNS. As VP of Clinical Services she oversees the entire clinical operations of the agency and under Kathy’s dedicated leadership, the VNS now serves more than 675 clients in 7 counties.
David Pratt, MD, MPH
Dr. Pratt has a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of New Hampshire and a medical degree from Tufts University in Boston. In addition he has and master’s in public health from SUNY Albany.
Prior to joining the VNS, David was a medical director with Novartis Vaccines and Diagnostics. He also served as the Commissioner of Public Health for Schenectady County and Medical Director for GE Energy both based in Schenectady. He also taught at the Union Graduate College and at the SUNY Albany School of Public Health.
He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine and Preventive Medicine.
His current medical interests are preventing chronic disease, improving the care of patients with life limiting illnesses and advancing the goals of the Schenectady Community Health Assessment completed in 2013.
He enjoys being with his family, hiking, biking, running, cross country skiing, kayaking, reading fiction and movies. He and his family live in the Capital Region.
William Vacca, MD
Palliative Care Medical Director
Dr. William Vacca is a practicing cardiologist with Cardiology Associates of Schenectady, and the inaugural Medical Director for the VNS CARE CHOICES program. Dr. Vacca is a native of Schenectady, and a graduate of Creighton University Medical School. He has championed many innovations in cardiac care in the Schenectady community since he first established practice here in 1979. He is proud to be part of CARE CHOICES because he feels it is an emerging vital component of health care for patients and families who are facing the advanced stages of progressive disease.
Phil Di Sorbo
Palliative Care Director
Phil is a native of Schenectady and a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Union College (Bachelor’s), and SUNY Albany (Master’s). He has an extensive background in health care, hospice care, and palliative care. He served as Executive Director of Hospice of Schenectady and then Community Hospice. In addition, he has worked for FHSSA in international palliative care with the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization. He is married to Cindy Niese Di Sorbo and thoroughly enjoys their children and grandchildren.
